As we witness unprecedented urbanization and infrastructure development, the ecological toll of construction has reached alarming levels. Our key challenges include: ❖ Excessive Energy Consumption and carbon footprint: ➢ Globally, construction accounts for 36% of energy use, and in India, the rapid pace of urbanization amplifies this demand. This presents a pressing need for sustainable and energy-efficient solutions. ➢ With nearly 40% of global carbon emissions attributed to construction, and a surge in infrastructure projects in India, we face a critical challenge in mitigating the industry's significant carbon footprint. ❖ Waste Management Crisis: ➢ The construction sector generates approximately 40% of total landfill waste worldwide, with India struggling to implement efficient waste management practices. ❖ Resource Depletion and Habitat Loss: ➢ Globally, the extraction of construction materials threatens ecosystems and biodiversity. In India, the escalating demand for resources due to rapid urban development poses a serious risk to local ecosystems. ❖ Water Scarcity and Pollution: ➢ Construction activities globally contribute to water pollution, while in India, high water consumption during material production and on-site activities exacerbates water scarcity issues. Solutions for sustainable water practices are imperative. ❖ Air Quality Concerns: ➢ Construction sites globally are significant contributors to air pollution. In India, dust and emissions from construction machinery contribute to pervasive air quality issues in urban and rural areas.
